ToggleChristophe Henry appointed Campus Head at Shanghai American School
China’s largest international school, the Shanghai American School (SAS), has appointed Christophe Henry as the Head of their Puxi campus. Founded in 1912, SAS has two campuses (Pudong & Puxi) and over 2,800 students enrolled in Pre-K through 12th grade.
According to a notification issued by the school, Christophe was earlier with the Jakarta Intercultural School. He worked there for 10 years as the Middle School Principal. Previously he served four years as Middle School Principal at the Anglo-American School of Moscow.
Christophe has also held various French Immersion and Social Studies teaching positions in schools throughout British Columbia, Canada. He holds a BA in French from Acadia University, Canada, a BA in Education of French Teaching Methods from Dalhousie University, Canada, and an MA in Educational Administration from San Diego State University.
American School of Doha ties up with Alfardan Group; Establishes Kenyan Education Center
The American School of Doha (ASD) has announced the Alfardan Group as the Sponsor Premier of the Machakos Education Center in Kenya. This sponsorship aligns with the Alfardan Group’s corporate social responsibility in support of global education. The 100,000 QR donation by Alfardan Group has propelled this project forward with the clearing of land and laying the foundation for all of the center’s buildings.
Over the last 3 years, the ASD community has collaborated to build a school to make education available to children in the Machakos county of Kenya. The Alfardan Group and the ASD school community members have raised a total of 135,000 QAR through various on-campus projects. The school will continue to raise funds to meet their overall goal of 400,000 QR needed to complete this project.
The development of this educational center has been supported by H.E. Ambassador Galma Boru from the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya and has also received a Qatar Airways donation.
BSC-NCUK tie up for Online Program
English language provider British Study Centres and UK pathway specialist NCUK have extended their partnership to deliver an online pre-master’s program (PMP) for students wishing to study for a master’s degree at a UK university. The PMP course is available entirely online, and the PMP course aims to improve English language proficiency, study skills, and academic knowledge to prepare for postgraduate study at 16 NCUK member institutions adequately.
Along with raising language proficiency to English for Academic Purposes, the skills students will learn to include planning a research project, taking notes in lectures, and discussion skills on tutorials and seminars.
“BSC is delighted to add to our university pathways portfolio with a high-quality NCUK program with great master’s degree progression routes,” Steve Phillips, managing director of Pathways and Transnational Education at BSC, said. “Our students now have more flexible options than ever before with their chosen higher education path.” Prospective students need to have studied a bachelor’s degree in a language other than English from a university on a government-approved list. They also must have a grade equivalent to a 2:1 and a language level of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent.
The PMP is designed to accommodate degree graduates with varying levels of English language ability. Students completing the program will be guaranteed admission to an appropriate postgraduate program offered by an NCUK member university.
CIEE announces Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship Winners
CIEE has announced the winners of the Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship, which covers all the costs for 10 outstanding students from Minority Serving Institutions to participate in a customized summer study abroad program focused on leadership and intercultural communication. Fellows are selected based on their academic achievement, communication skills, and commitment to social justice. — qualities representative of the award’s namesake, African American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and international statesman Frederick Douglass.
According to a statement issued by CIEE on their website, the 10 students were selected for this prestigious award from a pool of more than 2,000 applicants. The 2020 Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship program was originally scheduled for July 2020 in Cape Town, South Africa. However, due to the global impact of COVID-19, this cohort of Fellows will study abroad in 2021 instead. CIEE is also offering the Frederick Douglass Global Fellows a full scholarship to attend an online course on Nelson Mandela, taught by Quinton Redcliffe during summer 2020.
To further increase access to international education for underrepresented students, CIEE has awarded all qualified Fellowship applicants a $1,500 Frederick Douglass Summer Scholars Grant.
