Staff at the Student Loans Company celebrated the Company’s 25th Anniversary this week at its city centre headquarters in Glasgow.
SLC employees took a trip down memory lane with an array of pictures, video footage, documents and memorabilia through the decades.
The event also saw employees posing for SLC selfies, signing the giant birthday card and feasting on the special bake-off cakes, prepared by staff.
One of the longest-serving employees, Jackie McGale, opened the event and talked to staff about how working there has changed over the years.
“When I first started there were about forty employees over a floor or two in Glasgow. Now we have around 2,800 members of staff across three locations in Darlington and Wales too,” said Jackie from Thornliebank, who works as a repayment manager at the Company.
“There are a handful of people, along with myself, who have been here since day one. I suppose we are part of the history and it was great to see some old pictures from nights out, staff magazines and things you’d totally forgotten about, to reminisce and celebrate our time here.”
The Student Loans Company employs over 1,300 staff in Glasgow and officially opened its doors on 10th September 1990. The Government-owned firm now pays out around £15 billion in loans and grants and collects repayments from former students across the UK.
The Company also expanded its social media presence to mark the 25 year event. In addition to answering customer queries about taking out student loans and repaying them on Facebook and Twitter, the Company issued its first corporate Tweet marking the anniversary and ‘helping people invest in their futures for 25 years’.
